Authorities said they arrested a Florence woman who said she sold methamphetamine from the apartment she shared with her mother and 20-month-old daughter to help pay for rent.
Megan Blaine Serrano, 22, has been booked into the Pinal County Adult Detention Center on suspicion of child endangerment and various drug charges, including possession of marijuana, of drug paraphernalia and dangerous drugs for sale.
The Pinal County Regional Narcotics Task Force executed a search warrant Monday at Serrano's home in the 900 block of South Desoto Street. Seized from the apartment were unspecified quantities of methamphetamine and marijuana, glass pipes and two digital scales, according to a statement issued Wednesday from the Pinal County Sheriff's Office.
The statement said the drugs and paraphernalia were found within reach of the toddler.
Law enforcement began investigating Serrano following an anonymous tip from a caller to the narcotics hotline, 520-866-5200.
Sheriff Paul Babeu said the partnership between police and the public "is imperative in our attempt to reduce not only drug trafficking but also the crimes associated with it."
The Pinal County Regional Narcotics Task Force is made up of law-enforcement members from the Pinal County Sheriff's Office, the Arizona Department of Public Safety and officers from police departments in Apache Junction, Florence, Eloy and Coolidge.
So far this year, authorities say the task force has seized 16,676 pounds of marijuana, 3.85 pounds of methamphetamine, 85 gramsof heroin, 4 grams of cocaine, $19,377 in cash, and $339,229 in other assets including homes and vehicles.
