Arrest made in Oct. 2 shooting... in Maricopa

A Glendale native is under arrest for the Oct. 2 shooting of an unnamed 18-year-old after a party in the Acacia Crossing neighborhood.

According to a press release from the Maricopa Police Department, 20-year-old Michael Magana, was at a house party with the victim and allegedly left with him and a group of other people and walked to a park near Costa Brava Avenue and Alemendras Street.

Magana then allegedly pulled a handgun out, and a bullet was discharged and struck the victim in the abdomen. The intent of Magana’s alleged actions were not mentioned.

He was booked in the Pinal County jail on Oct. 5 and charged with aggravated assault and reckless discharge of a firearm.

Officers arrived at the scene at 4:55 a.m., and the victim, also from Glendale, was treated on scene by the Maricopa Fire Department and was later transferred to the Maricopa County Medical Center, where he is in critical condition.

A search warrant was served at the house where the party occurred, and investigators found evidence of underage drinking and the use of the drug MDMA, better known as ecstasy, as well as a evidence that a handgun was used in the shooting.

The release said the department is still investigating the shooting....
