THE STREETS DON'T LOVE YOU BACK

Welcome... Click on all the headings/subheadings below for more information

This is about buying your child a doll of a different race. I know as a Black Father I don't buy my girls white dolls and they know it and understand why they are not allowed to have white dolls.

As you stated: Clark concluded that "prejudice, discrimination and segregation" caused black children to develop a sense of inferiority and self-hatred. You say you are Pro Black in your home, what are your children learning about the above.

As for me... yes I have seen the study and find it heartbreaking and disturbing. I am not a prejudice person and have always done my best to treat everyone with respect. I have nothing to do with the past "white supremecy" in fact less than 5% of white people owned slaves. I hate than anyone gets treated differently due to their skin color. I cannot change the past, but can help make the future a better more positive place for all.

I think most of us buy things (like dolls) that are more like ourselves but their is nothing wrong with having something different. I was not condeming you for buying your children blackdolls, my comment is to people in general.

People are unsure or afraid of what they dont know. Stand strong in your culture, race, religion, whatever it may be but dont be afraid to get to know what others are about.

Children learn what they life... and by the example of adults in their lives!!!

I am teaching all youth to love yourself, believe in yourself, strive for greatness, dont ever let anyone get in the way of your growth and development. You can achieve anything in this world that you want.

Together we can achieve more...

Lucinda have you seen the studies that were done, where they had two dolls one white and one black and asked the black children which doll was good and which doll was bad. This is a very important study to see where the mind of the black child is. A short film by a New York City high school student asks how far our society has come in its attitude toward race since the 1940s. In her film, "A Girl Like Me," Kiri Davis recreates a famous 1940s experiment conducted by Dr. Kenneth Clark that studied the psychological effects of segregation on black children. In Clark's test, children were given a black doll and a white doll, and then asked which one they thought was better. Overwhelmingly, they chose the white doll. Davis asked 4- and 5-year-old kids at a Harlem school the same question in 2005. She found the children's answers were not that different. In Davis' test, 15 of the 21 children said that the white doll was good and pretty, and that the black doll bad. Clark concluded that "prejudice, discrimination and segregation" caused black children to develop a sense of inferiority and self-hatred. The experiment also influenced the Brown vs. Board of Education decision, which outlawed school segregation.

So before you condemn us for buying our children Black only dolls please ask questions and learn all about yourself as well as others. I believe you just didn't have a clue on the effects of White Supremacy on Black people.

In my home we are Pro Black, there is no picture of Jesus in our home at all ( that has nothing to do with being Pro Black where Muslims) but I showed a picture of a white Jesus and asked my children who is this and I just knew they would be like "I don't know" but they said Jesus. I was shocked so I took my 2 year old and ran the doll test on her at Walmart I asked her to grab the pretty doll and then the ugly doll and the good doll and bad doll. And to my shock and dismay they pick the white doll as good and pretty and the black dolls as bad and ugly! So I had to see where are they getting this crap from they watch these stupid TV shows called So Random, Jessie , Good Luck Charlie there are not many shows that promote good Black images for children to see themselves. Some of this stuff is in the life blood!

A NICE STORY... IT IS THE ADULTS THAT ARE KEEPING THE CHILDREN RACIST.  IT SHOULD NOT MATTER WHAT THE COLOR OF YOUR SKIN IS... BUY A WHITE AND A BLACK DOLL AND SHOW THEM THAT IS OK TO BE TOGETHER... COME ON PEOPLE!!!
