This is a website designed to bring exposure, hope, and relief to federal inmate GEORGE MARTORANO. George has spent 27+ years of his LIFE NO PAROLE sentence in federal prison for NON-VIOLENT drug crimes. George is ONE of, if not the LONGEST SERVING NON-VIOLENT 1st TIME OFFENDERS in the WORLD to date. George, despite his sentence, has mantained hope that he will someday receive the "SECOND CHANCE" he has earned, and so deserves. While we advocate for George Martorano's freedom, we also speak for the thousands and thousands of others within the walls that have also received harsh unjust sentences. Change is needed. Sentencing has FILLED our prison system beyond capacity. While the crime rate has actually fallin, the incarceration rate keeps soaring-why?? because of Sentencing

The Hearing

Your Honor, Your Honor understand my life for I am the one they chose to be the loneliest

In this loneliness a dripping melts from my heart drop by drop

Thus these drops all in my cup of sorrow which I am forced to drink again and again.

Then cometh and come the gray morn it all starts over drop by drop

Your Honor, Your Honor please make it stop even if it's drop by drop

George Martorano waits. While he waits, he continues to do what he does best - "HELP PEOPLE" - He is either teaching, mentoring, learning, or writing. He has spent 28 years "caged". We can only hope and pray that the judge looks not only at the 28 years he has served, and the "LAW" that states his sentence is illegal when considering his latest motion, but also at all he has accomplished while "caged". The Supreme Court just said yesterday, that rehabilitation should be considered with/when sentencing. George is guilty of his crimes, ALL NON-VIOLENT 1ST TIME OFFENSES, he plead guilty. To be given a LWOP no hope sentence, with no consideration for any kind of rehabilitation exhibited, is just not what I would call "justice"

If there is an ounce of justice left in this country, George will get relief from this "draconian" sentence and be released soon.
Between all The Law and a little Compassion, GEORGE WILL BE FREED
George was in court on January 19th. His team of attorneys, Roy Black, Marcia Silvers, and Theodore Simon by his side, argued that George's sentence is illegal. After hearing "oral arguments" from both side, the Honorable Judge Pratter, gave both sides 3 weeks to produce proof of what they "argued". The Judge will then decide within 30 days as to whether George will be re-sentenced legally. With all of George's accomplishments while caged for the past 28 years, his teaching, his writings, and his desire, if ever free to detour others from being lured into the drug world and have to experience what he has endured, are all reasons that we here, at the WEBELIEVEGROUP believe George should be re-sentenced, to no more than a sentence of "TIME SERVED

George's new blog site at... www.freegeorge.us

Before you exit this site thinking it has nothing to do with YOU, think about this, if you are paying federal taxes, a portion of that tax money goes towards the warehousing of over 180,000 federal inmates ($20,000 to $80,000 per year, per inmate)- While we will agree that some criminals do belong there, there are many many others like GEORGE MARTORANO, who are ready to come home and should, but they are stuck in these over CROWDED prisons with draconian sentences, using up those taxdollars. Taxdollars that should be going to education, seniors, healthcare, veterans, ETC ETC ETC-- so think about it, IT DOES AFFECT YOU

The truth about George Martorano is that Federal Agents posed as his wholesale dealers and orchestrated a sting operation that took George from a "nickel & dime" pot dealer to what they called a "kingpin". The life sentence was meant to scare him into informing the Feds about his father, alleged mobster Raymond "LongJohn" Martorano. Unable to tell the Feds anything they already did'nt know, George was put into solitary confinement for four and one half years and was subjected to cruel punishments. They gave him notorious murderers for cellmates. For a crime that others serve a maximum of twenty years for, George got life no parole. Even the man who shot President Regan, and Noriega, one of the most infamous drug traffickers of all time, were granted the possibility of parole.
George has written over twenty novels and screenplays that depict life behind bars as well as how he grew up. He teaches Creative Writing and Yoga classes, and even counsels suicidal inmates. If prison is meant to rehabilitate, then George is the prime example and he undoubtedly deserves a modification of sentence.
Besides his books, George's only tool left is this web site, and We The People. Help us bring George home by reading his stories, writing President OBAMA, and signing our petition. Every word of encouragement is printed out, mailed to George, and will accompany him on his quest for justice.
THANK YOU and enjoy our site!!!
