Event Description

GUEST -JIMMY DASAINT
One of the most prolific new authors of urban literature has been release from federal prison in January 2009 after serving a 10 year prison sentence. James Mathis, professionally known as Jimmy DaSaint, during his incarceration, has been penning novels for the past eight years. With over 20 written manuscripts, three of which have been published, and two set to be published in 2009, Jimmy DaSaint, recognized for his undeniable talent, is being called the ‘new #1 author of street drama’. James ‘Jimmy DaSaint’ Mathis was born and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Being born the eldest of his mother’s five children, Jimmy, at an early age had to take on adult responsibility to assist in the survival of his welfare stricken family. Growing up in the Manta section of west Philly, know as ‘the bottom’ because of its violence, dilapidated buildings and so many families living far below the poverty level, Jimmy quickly realized the negative effects that the ghetto has on a young person. At the tender age of 12, Jimmy was introduced to the dangerous life of the shameless and cruel streets. By the age of 15, he had been arrested numerous times for burglary, trespassing and fighting. After numerous run-ins with the law, Jimmy determined to make his mother proud, focused on his academics and graduated from high school; the first in his family. Jimmy found peace of mind in writing songs, and music production. By the early 90’s, Jimmy started a rap group called Inner City Hustlers (I.C.H.). With Jimmy as the leader, I.C.H. quickly became one of Philly’s most successful rap groups. I.C.H was featured on mix tapes, television shows and performed as opening acts for major acts in the music industry. Jimmy DaSaint along with the members of I.C.H. were on their way to major stardom when in 1995 tragedy struck resulting in the spiraling down fall of the group. Don't miss this great Episode.
