A multi-law enforcement agency raid in Summit County resulted in the arrests of nine suspected members and affiliates of the infamous Sureños gang.

Summit County Sheriff's Sgt. Nick Wilkinson said four documented members of the often violent Mexican-American street gang were taken into custody Wednesday night at the Canyon Creek Apartments in Snyderville Basin.

The raid, which included an unspecified number of sheriff's deputies, Utah Highway Patrol troopers, Park City police and Metro Gang Unit officers, also nabbed two suspects with records of being Sureños affiliates, as well as three other suspected affiliates of the gang.

Those arrested are suspected of numerous drug, alcohol and other offenses. The extent of alleged violations continued to be investigated Thursday.

"Some suspects had ties to the local 'Brown Side 13' Sureños clique as well as documented Sureños gangs in Wasatch and Utah County," Wilkinson stated. "The case may also be related to a retail theft that occurred earlier in the day in Park City."

Seven adults were booked into the Summit County Jail, while one juvenile suspect was incarcerated at a juvenile detention facility. A second juvenile was released "on referral," or pending further proceedings; two of the adults also were placed on immigration hold for Homeland Security processing, Wilkinson.
