ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KTLA) -- The sports world is in mourning after five-time boxing world champion Johnny Tapia was found dead in his home in Albuquerque.
Police say they were called to Tapia's house around 7:45 p.m. Sunday after a family member discovered his body.
Tapia's death does not appear to be suspicious, according to investigators.
An autopsy is scheduled for the boxer sometimes this week.
Tapia won his first world championship in 2004, and would go on to win four more in three weight classes.
But his career was marked with personal problems, including a cocaine addition, alcoholism and depression.
He even adopted the nickname 'Mi Vida Loca' or 'My Crazy Life.'
Tapia was hospitalized in 2007 shortly after his retirement fight for an alleged cocaine overdose.
After nearly four years in retirement, Tapia came back to fight one last time in June.
He defeated Mauricio Pastrana in an eight-round decision
