The church's Pastor, Jeff Parker, says he had ministered to O'Flaherty on multiple occasions.
Parker said O'Flaherty lived with another man in a tent on property adjacent to the church.
Police have arrested Robert Bass, 47, and charged him with murder in O'Flaherty's death.
"It sounds almost out of character for the type of man he was," Pastor Parker said. "It doesn't sound like something he would do."
Pastor Parker says the two had lived in a tent in a wooded area behind the church.
"She would come on Wednesday nights, eat our soup," Pastor Parker said. "She was a sweet lady, very kind, gentle."
