The hush of the bat. Deaf since birth, St. David’s Preston Goodman plays a mean left field

he hush of the bat
The Sierra Vista Herald07/24/2010 - 23:03

SIERRA VISTA — The crack of a wooden bat as it hits a baseball is one of the most sentimental and distinctive sounds of the game. Even the ping of an aluminum one stirs similar feelings.

But wherever Preston Goodman is on the diamond, whether it’s in the outfield waiting to get a jump on a fly ball, or in the batter’s box knocking a pitch into the gap, he’s never had the chance to hear it.

Preston, who will be a senior at St. David High School this coming fall, was born deaf, but he’s never let it define what he can or can’t do..........GREAT JOB NEPHEW FROM YOUR UNCLE ROB AND AUNTIE LUCINDA
