The heart of a champion drives Ariel Arismendez, now known as the Amazing Ariel Arismendez. Through perseverance, focus on the path ahead, hard work, and a giving spirit to impart to others what she has acquired on her journey she deservingly has set her sights on the 2016 Olympics in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. The name Ariel means, (Lion of God) so hear the ROAR coming out of Tolleson, Arizona. This ROAR is going to resonate around the world, and nothing can stop it!!!
Ariel, graduated early at Estrella Community College with an associate degree in Science at the age sixteen, which is a leap not many accomplish at her age. She will be going to Grand Canyon University for College in the fall. Ariel is currently ranked 2nd in the United States as an amateur boxer in her weight/age division. Blood, Sweat and Tears and hard work and dedication does pay off. This past year she won the Silver Gloves, National Women's Golden Gloves and the National Police Athletic Lead Champions. A great breakthrough took place when she was invited last February to the Summer Olympic Training Center camp in Colorado Springs, Co, Shining like the noonday sun, Her sparring caused instant notoriety to emerge, they were asking her name , where she was from and many other questions as well. From that point she knew, I GOT THIS!!!
Sonny’s Boxing Gym in Goodyear at 13765 W Auto Drive is where Ariel trains, Sonny Gutierrez, is a former six-time amateur champ and is mentor and trainer in Ariel’s path of victory. Sonny’s Gym offers many family plans to get you started, personal training is also an option as Sonny’s. Check out the Chick Boxing wow!, this gym is an amazing place to refocus and gather as a family. This gym is one of the few places where there are no contracts and no start up fees. During practice at the gym, Ariel takes time out to mentor youth and older kids giving them knowledge and training insight. The kids admire and trust her greatly, they look up to her and want to learn, that’s the heart of a champion in action… My son Julian was totally surprised when she asked him to put on some gloves and showed him some moves. Mmm for someone who didn’t want to go to the gym, Julian had a smile a mile wide during and after that encounter, no doubt he was impacted by her and now he is eager to return to the gym and learn more.
One of Ariel’s specialties is educating the youth on how to handle bullying, a very prevalent problem in the schools. This year she spoke to many teens at the Celebrate Maryvale Award Ceremony with Mayor Marie Lopez Rogers, who is now Maricopa County Supervisor for District 5. Another passion that Ariel has is hooking up with “The Street Don’t Love Back” Team to hand out food and drinks to the homeless in Phoenix on every 1st Sunday of each month when she is not training. The dream of going to the Olympics is Ariel’s goal and it looks like the path is being formed for that dream to come true. The Encouragement and support from her coach and parents helps push her toward that goal and excitement is in the air Big Time!!!
