A 70-year-old woman was in the Hamilton County jail Wednesday morning accused of stabbing her husband.
Police say Leona Stephenson stabbed her husband Willie in the chest. It happened at their Colerain Township home on Aquarius Drive.
"She brandished the knife trying to keep him away from her. He apparently didn't think that she had it in her, he kept coming at her," Stephenson's attorney said.
Willie Stephenson called 911 and said, "My wife done stabbed me." Then Leona Stephenson got on the phone and denied the stabbing, but admitted she'd been drinking and they had been arguing.
Stephenson was taken to Franciscan-Mercy Hospital in Mt. Airy with non-life threatening injuries.
Stephenson has been charged with assault.
Police have not said what sparked the stabbing, but prosecutors noted in court that there was a history of domestic violence by Willie Stephenson against his wife -- nine calls in the last two years.
Stephenson was arraigned and released on her own recognizance. THINK
