Forsyth Student Suspended for Sexting

FORSYTH COUNTY, Ga. (MyFOX ATLANTA) - A middle school student was in trouble Friday for texting sexually explicit pictures. Forsyth County school officials said they caught a seventh grade girl sending cell phone pictures of herself to boys.

The seventh grade Liberty Middle School student was suspended and could face even harsher disciplinary action. School officials said the problem of sexting has gotten so bad at the school that they brought in law enforcement to talk to middle school students even before this latest incident.

"We had a seventh grade female student in one of our middle schools, send sexually explicit photos to some boys in other middle schools," said Jennifer Caracciolo of Forsyth County Schools.

School officials said the student's friend told a school administrator about the texts.

"Because she had taken the [pictures] and sent them and it came to our attention in a school building she received a 10-day suspension and then she's also been turned over to a disciplinary tribunal hearing," said Caracciolo.

Lindsey Tart is a student at Liberty Middle School and she said texts can spread quickly.

"They think this isn't really [going] affect them, nobody's going to pay attention to this. Then someone gets it, sends it to their friends. It starts spreading," said Tart. "It follows you for the rest of your life, it really does."

School officials said they will print up posters about sexting, that read "Think Before You Send." The posters will be placed around all the county's schools.

"At this school in particular they did have a parent information night where they discussed sexting and also one of our local law enforcement came in to talk to the sixth, seventh, and eighth graders to talk about sexting," said Caracciolo.

School officials said none of the three boys who received the texts forwarded them on to other students. think
