Phoenix Boys and Girls Center to host 'Cactus Gloves' event at Pinal County Fair

MARCH 14, 2013 BY: RON VALDERRAMA/ Kelly Fenn of the Phoenix Boys and Girls Center will be presenting the 'Cactus Gloves,' a two day tournament that will feature some great amateur boxing. The Olympic style amateur boxing event will be held Mar. 23-24, at the Pinal County Fair in Casa Grande, Arizona.

The event is open to all clubs and boxers, male and female in all weight classes and all are encouraged to participate. Fenn says this the first amateur boxing event ever at the Pinal County Fair and hopes it will become a tradition.

The Phoenix Boys Center was started by Valley Icon Promoter and Trainer Al Fenn in 1965. Al Fenn passed away a few years ago, but the legacy lives on and the tradition is carried on by his family. His daughter Kelly Fenn and her daughter, Jennifer Gibbons do a great job continuing the vision that Al Fenn started. Kelly's cousin, Lucinda Boyd and her husband Rob Boyd also help out by promoting the gym through their movement, "The Streets Don't Love You Back" which also includes a weekly radio show.

The Phoenix Boys Center is the oldest gym in Phoenix and is open to both boys and girls, creating a safe environment to learn and train in the sweet science. The gym also has some great memorabila that depicts the history of Arizona boxing.

The Pinal County Fair is located located at the Pinal County Fairgrounds, 512 S. Eleven Mile Corner in Casa Grand.
