Diondre Young, 21, was shot dead Friday morning near the Bay Bridge in San Francisco. At 5:44 p.m. on Thursday, 21-year-old Diondre Young posted a rhyme on Facebook that mentioned friends who had died and asked whether his “time could be next.”
Young’s “time,” it turned out, was just hours away, as he was found shot dead early the next morning in the Rincon Hill area.
Police found Young dead with at least one bullet wound to the torso at Main and Harrison streets, near the Bay Bridge, just after 2:30 a.m. He was the 16th homicide victim of this year in The City.
Friends and family took to social networking sites Friday to pay tribute to Young, who also went by the name “D-Nice.”
Young was no stranger to the streets, having been named in a 2010 injunction as an active member of the so-called Towerside gang in Visitacion Valley.
In that injunction, the City Attorney’s Office said Towerside was embroiled in a vicious gang war with neighboring rival Down Below Gangsters. The war had been responsible for more than 10 homicides in just three years, according to police.
On Young’s Facebook page, a friend acknowledged that his most recent post — the sharing of a hip-hop video by C-Murder titled “Life or Death” — was his last. Also, just hours before Young’s body was found, he posted a chilling rhyme foreshadowing his death.
“Seeing mi peope put 2 rest/gotta nigga mind stressed/with that iron and a vest/knowing mi time could be next....”
Taylor Johns, a star basketball player for Sacred Heart Cathedral, paid his respects on Twitter Friday morning, noting Young had recently cheered for him at his state championship game.
