Locked Up Arizona: A look at the state of Arizona’s criminal justice system

Locked Up Arizona: A look at the state of Arizona’s criminal justice system

By Corban Carson, KTAR

Locked Up Arizona is a documentary that has been in the works for months.

I started working on this documentary in November.

But before you listen, here are some statistics you need to know from the Arizona Department of Corrections:

  • Arizona has 16 state prisons, six of which are run by private companies.
  • In those prisons live more than 48,000…

Addiction is sometimes hard to recognize. If you need help determining whether you or a loved one has an addiction or a dependency, you’re not alone. Thankfully, there are ways to recognize drug and alcohol abuse, even in the most elusive addicts.

U-47700, goes by the street name U-4

The drug, U-47700, is a synthetic opioid analgesic eight times more powerful than morphine. It causes sedation and respiratory depression, which can be fatal. The shipments usually come from overseas, particularly China. It is sold in vials or plastic baggies that are labeled “Not for Human Consumption” or “For Research Purposes Only.”

It has been known to be sold as "oxycodone" on the streets. The synthetic opioid U-47700 has largely been limited to laboratories in the last several…

TALK TO YOUR KIDS ABOUT DRUGS. ONLY ONE CAN KILL THEM

TALK TO YOUR KIDS ABOUT DRUGS. ONLY ONE CAN KILL THEM. It may look like candy!! The "Death pill," fentanyl is disguised as other drugs and linked to the spike in US overdoses. Fentanyl is 50 to 100 times as powerful as morphine, and often users of Xanax and other pills don’t know they’re taking it. Users can purchase fentanyl nasal sprays, geltabs, and even U-47700 – a research opiate – in the form of Pez candies.…

Oxycontin approved for children ages 11-16.

FYI...The United States Food and Drug Administration approved OxyContin for prescription use among children ages 11-16. This was approved in 2014 and will have the first study done in 2019.

OxyContin is one of the most addictive and problematic drugs on the pharmaceutical market.

The National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH) reported the addiction stats of OxyContin, the reports shined a scary reality on non-medicinal use of prescription pain killers:

-Over 31 million…

Raising Daughters in a World that Devalues Them: 7 Things We Must Tell Them

Raising Daughters in a World that Devalues Them: 7 Things We Must Tell Them...

October 1, 2014 by Kristen

I took my daughter shopping one night over Spring Break. It’s flip flop and shorts weather down here in Texas about 10 months out of the year, not to mention my girl gets taller every minute. She passed me up months ago.

Shopping with my teenager should be fun. And mostly it is, except for the actual clothes-shopping-part. It’s so hard to find modest clothes. My teen…

Police at my door: what should I do?

COPIED FROM FLEX YOUR RIGHTS

Don’t be intimidated by police at your door. These rules will help protect your rights and improve your odds of avoiding a home search.

No Warrant, No Search!

The Supreme Court has ruled that the home is entitled to maximum search protection. Even if they have probable cause to believe something illegal is going on inside your home, the 4th Amendment requires police to get a signed…

When can police search your car?

COPIED FROM FLEX YOUR RIGHTS

While police generally need a warrant to search you or your property — during a traffic stop, police only need probable cause to legally search your vehicle. Probable cause means police must have some facts or evidence to believe you’re involved in criminal activity.

In other words, an officer’s hunch without evidence of illegal activity is not enough to legally search your car. Before…

Cocaine Laced With Veterinary Drug Levamisole Eats Away at Flesh, Eighty-two percent of seized cocaine contains levamisole.

JUST SAY NO TO DRUGS... IT'S NOT WORTH IT...

Cocaine cut with the veterinary drug levamisole could be the culprit in a flurry of flesh-eating disease in New York and Los Angeles.

The drug, used to deworm cattle, pigs and sheep, can rot the skin off noses, ears and cheeks. And over 80 percent of the country's coke supply contains it.

"It's probably quite a big problem, and we just don't know yet how big…

Krokodil: The heroin substitute is a real threat.

Krokodil first surfaced in Russia several years ago, where users discovered the drug was much cheaper than heroin and could easily be cooked in a kitchen by combining codeine with gasoline, oil, alcohol or paint thinner. An opiate that's chemically related to morphine and heroin, krokodil earned its name in two ways: Addicts develop dark, scaly lesions on their skin, and the drug tends to eat its victims alive, like a crocodile. And now, krokodil has arrived in the…

THE POWER OF WORDS...

THE POWER OF WORDS

The Power Of Words - Huffington Post - Powerful Interview - Full Segment: From Rick Ross to Lil Wayne, rappers are catching flack about their socially insensitive lyrics. But when do words cross the line and should lyrics be policed?

BAN RICK ROSS's music... NO it's totally not cool to glorify date rape through lame song lyrics.

NO it's totally not cool to glorify date rape through lame song lyrics, but that's just what Rick Ross did when he co-wrote the track "UOENO" with fellow rapper Rocko.

Here are the lyrics:

"Put molly all in her champagne/ She ain't even know it/ I took her home and I enjoyed that/ She ain't even know it."

So, if you're not in the know, "molly" is slang for MDMA, which is the main ingredient in the date rape drug. Molly + champange = blackout city for most unseasoned…

Have you met "Molly?" She's a hit at the clubs

TAMPA (FOX 13) -

Have you met "Molly?" She's a hit at the clubs, and she's popular on the concert scene -- but this is no cute girl.

"Molly" is a drug, and moms and dads should know about it because chances are, your kids already do.

If you hear your teens say they're hanging out with "Molly," or you see it pop up on a Facebook posting, that's a red flag.

Molly started in the underground rave scene, but now is wildly popular with more mainstream teenagers and…
