Suspected gang member arrested for last week's shooting.

Police on Tuesday arrested a 20-year-old suspected gang member for accidentally shooting a teenaged girl last week and then covering the incident up.

David Espinoza, an alleged Norteño gang member, is charged with street terrorism, making a false report to a peace officer, concealing a crime scene, being a gang member in possession of a handgun, contributing to delinquency and negligent discharge of a firearm, Tracy police Sgt. Tony Sheneman said.

He was booked into San Joaquin County Jail in French Camp.

On March 24, a 17-year-old girl with a shooting wound to her abdomen told police she had been the victim of a random drive-by shooting on the 1300 block of West 12th Street.

Police later found that Espinoza was allegedly showing the girl the gun when it accidentally fired, Sheneman said. The girl was treated for her non-life-threatening injuries at the hospital.
